In looking for ways to deal with changing weather conditions and the result of Hurricane Sandy on Red Hook we researched Plan Obus by Le Corbusier, Water Lilies, and Indonesian Stilt Housing. The common thread between all of these is frame and infill, which was used alongside other ideas of elevation, circulation and communities to develop a module. The frame would act as circulation paths for both pedestrians and limited vehicles while the infill would become units that would aggregate across the site. When the module aggregates it elevates itself above the water keeping the units above the 16’ FEMA insurance line and creates denser communities. Other aquatic based program such as lily garden, boat dock and swimming pools activate the “ground” plane.
